Microsimulation of Traffic

Media

Description

In the planing of traffic routes, simulations play a major role. Alongside cumulative techniques, which take global flow density and similar scales into account, microsimulation is an important approach. Here, the simulations are reduced to the level of individual vehicles. Often, this kind of representation enables identification of the exact reasons for traffic problems. In this case, achieving informative and realistic modelling of individual driving behaviour is particularly challenging.

In the animation one experiences how something as simple as timely indication, when on exiting a roundabout (compulsory according to traffic laws) can significantly improve traffic flow. Using the slide bars, it is possible to change the volume of traffic in two directions and alter the number of drivers who indicate.
